This unique 14k yellow gold cigarette box, designed by the esteemed jeweler Paul Flato in 1942, holds a storied past. Custom-crafted for Vogue Editor Edna Woolman Chase’s daughter, Ilka, the piece features an engraved caricature of Ilka and the title of her memoir, "Past Imperfect," replicated from the book's cover. The elegant box is adorned with enamel, diamonds, and platinum, epitomizing Flato’s celebrated artistry.

An inscription on the inner cover reads, “To my daughter Ilka with unfailing love Edna Woolman Chase April 8th 1942,” adding personal historical significance. Measuring 4.75 inches in length, 3 inches in width, and 0.60 inches in depth, this piece weighs approximately 249 grams.

This extraordinary item was highlighted in Masterpieces of American Jewelry by Judith Price (2004, p. 73) and showcased in the "Masterpieces of American Jewelry" exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum, New York (August 20, 2004 – January 23, 2005).
